Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, August 11, 2001 John Batroff, 76, of Mormon Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001. Mr. Batroff was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Chicago. He moved to Peoria as a child. After finishing school, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Discharged in 1946, he returned to Peoria and began a career as a commercial painter. He married the former Marcella Poorman there in 1946. They moved to Phoenix in 1952. She died in 1990 and Mr. Batroff moved to Mormon Lake in 1987. Mr. Batroff enjoyed fishing, baseball (an avid Cubs fan), ballroom dancing, Big Band music and his family. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by sons Robert Batroff of Cornville and Gary Batroff of San Francisco; daughters Mary Jo Batroff of Phoenix, Terry Mitchell of Long Beach and Barbara Snyder of Long Beach; brother Karl Batroff of San Diego; sister Karen Batroff of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. Private family services have been held. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Flagstaff Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
