ANDERSON, Truman E. (Andy)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 Truman E. "Andy" Anderson left this world peacefully on Oct. 15, 2012, at his home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lynden, Wash., on Aug. 21, 1928, to Emil and Esther Axlund Anderson. He was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1946, and then spent time working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and as a logger. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Joan Wilson. The same year, he was drafted into the Army and served in Germany. He returned home to Washington, where they would reside for the next eight years. In 1960, Truman, his wife and daughters moved to Prescott, Ariz., where they lived for 50 years. He worked in the construction field as a union carpenter and as a general contractor until his retirement. He had a passion for motorcycles and antique cars, especially 1940s Ford convertibles. During his years in Prescott, he served as president of the Carpenters Union and was a member of the Elks Club, Prescott Community Church and Mountain Top Street Rodders. Truman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Karen Pehl (Travis) of Lynden, Wash.; Carol Hill (Dale) of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and Teresa Nelson (Joe) of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather Pehl of Bellingham, Wash.; Brett Pehl (Misty) of Lynden, Wash.; Clay Pehl of Gilbert, Ariz.; Chaz Hill (Kelly) of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Cody Hill; and great-grandsons, Jordin Hill and Kaleb Hill of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and brother Sterling "Bud" Anderson of Lynden, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Doris Anderson and Evelyn Koetje Ausink. He will also be greatly missed by his cocker spaniels, Riley and Zach. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. A private burial will be at the Prescott National Cemetery.
