Fred Van Kirk, 88, passed away Oct. 20, 2012, in Prescott Ariz. Fred was born in Mountain View, Okla., on Dec. 7, 1923, to David and Mattie Van Kirk.
Fred served in the Army Air Corps as a first lieutenant from 1944 to 1946. Following his military service, he returned to UC Berkeley to earn his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering. He spent 30 years of his career as an electrical engineer for Hughes in southern California. After retiring from Hughes, he worked for TRW for five years.
Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores (Dot); his son, David; his daughter-in-law, Ginger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1995, Fred and Dot retired to Prescott where Fred earned his pilot's license at the age of 76 and enjoyed tennis and volunteering at the VA.
A memorial service will be at noon on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott.
