BURROUGHS, Steven R.

The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Saturday, October 27, 2012 Steven R. Burroughs 1958 - 2012 Steven R Burroughs, a resident of the Verde Valley since 1989, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Valley, Ryan House surrounded by his loving family on October 20, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Alice, four children, David Burroughs (Morgan), Stephanie Bernoski (Nick), Ariel Latimer, Myles Latimer, and 3.5 grandchildren. Steve was born in Salem, Illinois, on January 23, 1958, to parents Raymond and Beverly Burroughs. Survived by a younger sister, Vicki Burroughs. Steve wore many hats over his working career. He started out as an architectural designer with his business partner for over 25 years with projects all over the state of Arizona. They moved the business to the Verde Valley in 1989. Steve decided to take a ceramic class at Yavapai College, where he became the lab assistant in the art department, taught photography, and worked briefly in the facilities department where he designed the Fire Training Center on Airport Road in Cottonwood. He also worked at the local nursery, managed the Peter Piper Pizza, and if that was not enough, he decided to go back to school and become a Fireman/EMT. He became a reserve for Clarkdale Fire Department in 2002. He was the Public Works Director for the Town of Clarkdale and for the past two years worked as the Project Manager for the Town of Camp Verde. Steve enjoyed riding anything with a motor and two wheels. These past few years, Steve and Alice have logged over 20,000 miles on their Harley. Steve’s motto: It is not the destination, but the journey getting there. Steve always enjoyed a good prank and catching friends and family in an embarrassing Kodak moment. Steve not only looked out for his family & friends, he took pride in helping out his community. The service and celebration of Steve’s life will be on November 3rd in the Clarkdale Park. At 12:30 p.m. there will be photos and displays at the gazebo. At 1:00 p.m. the memorial and celebration of life will begin with a traditional fire service procession of fire apparatus around the park. Driving your Harley to the service is encouraged, a special parking area will be provided. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate photos you may have of Steve to leave on a photo board. A donation account is being set-up to help with medical and other expenses. We will post information on this as soon as we are able. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support. A special thank you to our Clarkdale Fire District family. Information provided by survivors.
