SCOTT, James Barry

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/30/2012 James Barry Scott, 54, resident of Gilbert for eight years died Oct. 23, 2012. He was born Oct. 16, 1958, in Springerville. Barry spent his childhood in Alpine, where he grew into the definitive outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, hunting and fishing. Barry earned a bachelor of science in wildlife biology from Arizona State University. While attending school, Barry met Mindy Moore, and they were married June 9, 1979. During these years, Barry spent memorable time working for the U.S. Forest Service. Soon after their daughter Elizabeth was born, they moved to Willcox, where Barry began working for Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative. In the years following, they welcomed two more children, Andrew and Mary Kate. While living in Willcox, Barry volunteered for the Cochise County Sherriff Search and Rescue, where he was not only able to be outdoors, but also help his community. After nearly 24 years of service at the Cooperative, Barry and Mindy relocated to Gilbert. There, Barry began a new career with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management — an opportunity to once again work alongside the Forest Service and county search and rescue. Barry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and public servant with an unprecedented thirst for knowledge. Barry is survived by his wife, Mindy; three children: Elizabeth Clarinda (John T. Ralph), Andrew James and Mary Katherine; granddaughters: Daphne Elizabeth and Madelyn Mary; parents Millard and Jacquie; mother-in-law Dorothy Moore; paternal grandmother Mae Scott; sisters Rebecca Ann (Scott Brooks), Kristi Belinda (Tony Schuster) and Karen Lynn; nieces Keaton and Scotlyn; nephews Bret and Quayd and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Barry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mack and Monette Gaston; paternal grandfather Alfred Scott; and father-in-law G.L. Moore. Services for Barry were held Oct. 26, at the Willcox United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Cochise County Sheriff Search and Rescue.
