George Raymond Barton
(December 29, 1924 - October 31, 2012)
George Raymond Barton (Uncle George) passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends October 31st 2012. He was born in Otis Massachusetts December 29th, 1924 to Samuel D. Barton and May H. Johnson. He graduated from Otis Elementary and Lee High School. After serving in the US Army during World War II, he met Ruth M. Osgood and married her on St. Patrick’s Day March 17th, 1951.
He was a hardworking man raised in Otis, Massachusetts. He dedicated his life to helping others. He served as Fire Chief in Otis for 40 years. He and 11 other members of the fire department started an ambulance service in 1955. He was an active Mason for 66 years. He was a member of the Berkshire County Forest Wardens Association. He was the Otis Highway Superintendent and an active member of the Otis Kiwanis Club. He moved to Munds Park, Arizona in 1988.
George continued his service to the community by joining the Pinewood Fire Department and Ambulance Services. He was also a board member of the Pinewood Sewer Department. George then became Munds Park’s handy man and could be seen driving his white van or a green tractor around the area.
George was preceded in death by his wife Ruth M. Barton and his Brother Edmund D Barton. He is survived by his two children Jeffery A. Barton of 1990 N. Mountain Rd. North Ogden, Utah 84414 and Carolyn Wilander of 202 Second St. Pittsfield, Massachusetts 01201. His sister Frances Maggard of Camp Verde, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pinewood Fire Department or Shriners Hospital.
There will be a celebration of life held for George on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:00 P.M. at the Munds Park Community Church.
