Harold "Bill" Preston Barrett, 70, of Lake Havasu City, passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at his home.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1942 in Long Beach, Calif. to Harold and Reta (Rogers) Barrett, Sr.
He graduated from Bellflower High School and was attending college and working as a Union Iron Worker Local 433 in Los Angeles, when he joined the US Navy Seabees. Bill served two tours during the Vietnam War. He returned in 1969 from the war and continued to be an ironworker with Local 433, until he retired in 2000.
In 1969 he met his wife Sharon and they were married Jan. 10, 1970 at Canoga Park, Calif. Together they raised their four sons in California and then moved to Maine when Bill retired. After the death of his mother and father-in-law, they moved to Lake Havasu City. Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Bill was blessed to have so many wonderful and special friends during his life. He will be missed and always remembered as a hero to his sons.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon, Lake Havasu City; four sons, Michael (Teri), Thousand Oaks, Calif., Craig (Angela), Long Beach, Calif., Erle, New Jersey and James (Anna), Moorpark, Calif.; six grandsons, Jeremy, Cody, Mason, Hunter, Jett, Clayton; one granddaughter, Synclair and many friends.
The family gives special thanks for the wonderful care and concern that was given by New Hope Hospice.
A private service with military honors will be held at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Thank you to the Marine Corps League and the Legion Riders Post 81.
