RYAN, Maurice Andrew (Maury)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, November 03, 2012 Maurice Andrew Ryan transitioned from sickness to peace on Oct. 24, 2012. He and his twin brother were born Feb. 16, 1919, on a farm in Washington County, Wis. In August 1926, at age 7, he met Louise Zimmerman, age 4, and in 1947, they were married. "Maury" served in the Civilian Conservation Corp before entering the military service in WWII, performing as a flight navigator and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. After the war, he entered the University of Wisconsin to study engineering. After graduating with a BS in mechanical engineering, he went to work in Chicago, Ill., at International Harvester and began a family with Louise. He served for a while as Chairman of American Cancer Society, Cook County and School Board President (district 109), Cook County. He moved with his family to Moline, Ill., to continue his career with John Deere and Co., and finally with the Weapons Command at the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. Since retiring in 1982, Maury and Louise traveled the world and after settling in Prescott, Ariz., in 1994, continued to enjoy an active and adventurous life. Maury, a loving spouse, supportive and kind father, is remembered by all who knew him as a gentle spirit who lived fully and appreciated life. We celebrated his life and love on Nov. 1, 2012 (All Saints Day), at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. His service was honored and he was laid to rest.
