Vistoso Funeral Home, Oro Valley, Arizona Jim Corcoran December 21, 1933 ~ October 18, 2012 DR. JAMES R. CORCORAN Born December 21, 1933 in Neptune, NJ, Dr. Corcoran passed away peacefully on October 18, 2012 at the Oro Valley Hospital, Oro Valley, AZ after a brief illness. His wife and family were by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth Corcoran, sisters Lorraine Gallucci, Betty Wagner-Deck, and brother John Joseph, Jr. He is survived by his widow Christine Vitello Corcoran of Marana, sons John Louis Corcoran of Phoenix and Mickey Corcoran and his wife Ann of Pasadena, CA and grandchildren Daynon, Pierce, Tanner and Brenna Corcoran. He is also survived by his sister Jacqueline Corcoran Linville, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was a graduate of Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, earned an M.Ed in Counseling at the University of Memphis, and a Ph.D in Christian Counseling at Florida Christian University. While licensed as a professional counselor in Texas and Arizona and mental health counselor in Florida, he served as President of Christian Counselors of Texas and was a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. In 2004 he was invited to join the Pastoral Counseling Team at Casas Church, Oro Valley, AZ and subsequently was ordained as a minister of the gospel by the leadership of the Casas Church. In addition to his private practice, RealSmartLiving, Licensed Professional Counseling Service in Oro Valley, AZ, Dr. Corcoran taught Counseling Skills and Techniques at the Tucson campus of Wayland Baptist University. He authored several booklets of concise, cogent recipes for relational harmony: Three Steps to Joy in Forgiving, and a companion version, How and When to Forgive. Dr. Jim was loved by many and will be remembered for his wise counsel. A Memorial Service is scheduled on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vistoso Funeral Home, 2285 East Rancho Vistoso Boulevard, Oro Valley, AZ 85755. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Dr. Jim Corcoran Scholarship Fund (established to subsidize counseling service for those in need).
