Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, Thursday, November 15, 2012 Samuel Handy, 89, formerly of Winslow, died Nov. 3, 2012, in Surprise. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greer's Mortuary of Winslow Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, Winslow. Greer's Mortuary of Winslow is handling the arrangements. ~~~~~~~ Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow, Winslow, Arizona Funeral Service for Samuel Handy, 89, will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Zion Baptist Church, Rev. Wendell Carter presiding. Visitation will be Friday, November 16, 2012 at Greer's Mortuary Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will be at Desert View Cemetery. Samuel was born April 4, 1923 to Pate Handy and Martha Jane Williams in Mansfield, Louisiana. He was one of four siblings. On Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 6:00 PM God dispatched his angels to call him home to rest. He grew up in Mansfield, LA and accepted Christ at an early age. In 1950 Samuel moved to Winslow, AZ where he united in marriage with Birda Ree Davis. Two children were born into this union. Samuel worked at Duke City Lumber Mill and later for Waste Management until his retirement. Samuel united with Zion Baptist Church, where he was on the board of trustees, and was president of the ushers board. He was door keeper for the Lord until his illness. He was a devoted father and Grandfather. He leaves to forever cherish his memory two beloved daughters, Martha King of Las Vegas, NV, Betty Burney of Phoenix, AZ; brother Aubry Handy (Pe Colia) of Mansfield, LA; one granddaughter Krinda King of Phoenix, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Zerlene Perry and Nonie Smith (who passed on Nov. 2, 2012)
