The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Monday, November 19, 2012 Donna Mattson, age 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, in Flagstaff, Ariz. She was born on Dec. 3, 1931, in Rockland, Maine, to Stanley J. and Albertha Hussey Stone and grew up on the coast of Maine. In 1979, having grown tired of the harsh Maine winters she and John moved to sunny Arizona, where they lived in Flagstaff and Prescott. The couple returned to Maine for a few years, and moved back to Flagstaff for good in 2002. Mrs. Mattson enjoyed many hobbies. She was an avid reader, a great cook, loved to knit and crochet, followed politics, was a talented writer and loved to garden. She took up oil painting while living in Prescott, often painting floral scenes inspired by her beautiful flower gardens. Mrs. Mattson was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, her husband, Cpl. John Mattson, U.S. Army, (retired), and her son Gilbert Tripp. She is survived by her sister, Judy Ryan of Waldoboro, Maine; her brother Stanley J. "Jimmy" Stone Jr. (Eileen) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her sons George Tripp III (Katy) of Tenants Harbor, Maine, Jeffrey Tripp of Bangor, Maine, Matthew Mattson of Rockland, Maine, John Eric Mattson (Linda) of Snowflake, Ariz.; and her daughter Rebecca Williams of Flagstaff, Ariz. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and other family members in Maine. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, in Flagstaff, Ariz. She will be laid to rest next to her husband John in the VA Section of Citizens Cemetery in Flagstaff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Olivia White Hospice Home, P.O.
