Burl Nunn died peacefully at his home in Wickenburg on Nov. 9.
He was born July 8, 1935 in Wister, Okla., to Charley and Emma Nunn.
He served for two years in the Army and spent part of that time in Germany, then worked at Oklahoma Natural Gas Company (ONEOK) in Oklahoma City for 37 years before retiring in 1990 and moving to Arizona.
Burl and his wife, Jan, lived in Mesa and Lake Havasu City before moving to the Wickenburg area in 2002.
He loved fishing, hunting and metal detecting in Oklahoma; fly fishing in Colorado; and gold prospecting in Arizona. He enjoyed watching football, especially Oklahoma University (OU), RV-ing throughout the 49 states and Canada, and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Roadrunners Prospectors Club, Havasu Gold Seekers, Miners Creek Prospecting Club, and several others. He was proud to be a part of Calvary Baptist Church of Wickenburg, and was always willing to serve as needed.
Burl is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years; the sons he was so proud of: David and wife Tori of Phoenix, and Gary Ray and wife Mary in Oklahoma; beloved grandchildren Heather, Jacob, Christopher, Lindsay, Kaitlyn, Kerri and Kim; six great-grandchildren; brothers Eugene of Oklahoma City, and Leroy of Vista, Calif..; and many nieces and nephews.
The family cherishes the memories of his unconditional love for them, and for his many friends, which was rooted in Jesus’ faithful love for him.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him well for his love of life, his sensitivity, and his funny, never-failing sense of humor.
Preceding Burl’s arrival to Heaven was the arrival there of his infant son Gary Wayne; his mother and father; brothers James and Buster; and other family and extended family members.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 24) at Calvary Baptist Church, 930 North Tegner St. in Wickenburg, with Pastor Ken Demeter officiating.
Calvary Baptist Church and David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
Since Burl loved babies and kids so much, the family suggests any memorial contributions in his memory be made to New Life Pregnancy Center, P.O. Box 20343, Wickenburg, AZ 85358.
