HOOVER, Roy E.


Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on November 21, 2012 - Roy E. Hoover passed away in his sleep on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at his home in Phoenix with his family by his side. Roy was born June 19, 1923, in Albia, Iowa, to Joe and Lela Hoover and had a brother, Cecil E. Hoover, and a half-brother, Gene Hoover. Roy lived an active 89 years and had two sons, Steve and Brian, and a daughter, Joellen "Jody" with his first wife, Mary Jo Hoover. Roy's stepchildren with his wife Miriam "Mim" included Susan, Bill, and Anne Westeen. Roy had 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. "Where angels and Marines fear to tread, there you will find a corpsman dead - " Roy proudly served his country for six years in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacists' Mate during WWII. Upon returning from overseas duty, he obtained a degree in pharmacy at Drake University in Iowa in 1952. Roy raised his family in Kingman, where he owned the City Drug and Kingman Drug Stores and was an active leader in the Rotary and Elks Lodge, the VFW and the Chamber of Commerce. Roy and his family enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle, spending many happy weekends exploring Lake Mohave and the Colorado River. In retirement, Roy took great joy in spending time at a cabin in Durango, Colo., that he shared with his wife Mim and his friends and family who came to visit. A private family service will be held in Durango. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mohave Museum of History and Arts.
