The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 11/30/2012 Joey Lynn Brost, 52, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at her home in Eagar. She was born Aug. 26, 1960, in Alliance, Neb. to Bruce B. Brost and Robyn A. Brost. She lived in Nebraska, Ohio, Colorado and Arizona. Joey attended a Montessori school in Omaha, Neb., Riverside School in Troy, Ohio and graduated from Robert Weiland School in Denver, Colo. in 1980. She was active in Special Olympics, winning many medals in swimming and gymnastics. In 1996, after winning several metals in gymnastics, her photograph was selected for the brochure cover and poster for the Arizona Special Olympics State Competition. While in the Springerville/Eagar community she participated in programs with AZTEC, AIRES, and The Reeves Foundation. Joey lived in the Reeves Foundation group home (Alkire House) the last four years of her life. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Springerville. Joey was preceded in death by her father, Bruce B. Brost, M.D. and by her grandparents: Dr. Arnold and Ruth Burnham and Christy and Ruth Brost. She is survived by her mother, Robyn Burnham of Springerville; two sisters: Ann Brost of Chadron, Neb. and Ruth (Rusty) Reniers of San Francisco, Calif.; two nephews: Alexander (Alexa) Winston of Windsor, Colo. and Josef Potmesil of Chadron, Neb. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles: Bonnie (Richard) Speck of Placentia, Calif., Arnold G. Burnham, M.D., Betty (Bernard) Girard, Chris (Marty) Brost, Rebecca Brost, and Margie Brost, all of Alliance, Neb., Kay Brost of Broadus, Mont., Ed (Carolyn) Brost of Sturgis, S.D., James (Sheryl) Brost of Hot Springs, S.D. and Bryan (Kate) Brost of Lusk, Wyo. Joey is also survived by many cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharing Down Syndrome, 745 N. Gilbert Rd., #124 PNB 273, Gilbert, AZ 85234 or Alkire House in c/o Reeves Foundation, 41182 Hwy 261, Eagar, AZ 85925. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Springerville. Interment will occur at a later date in the Alliance Cemetery in Alliance, Neb.
