Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, December 2, 2012 - Betty June Powell, 78, passed away Nov. 26, 2012 in Lake Havasu City. She was born on June 29, 1934, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Hylas and Lily Ayala (Chambers) Lewis. Betty moved to Lake Havasu City 10 years ago, coming from Eufala, Okla. She had a heart larger than life and loved being surrounded by her family and never failed to tell them how much she loved them. Betty was a strong woman who was a breast cancer survivor for 19 years. Her favorite outings were family gatherings and a trip to the casino. Lake Hills Inn was her home for the past four years, where she made many friends who will miss her dearly. Betty was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, and now an Angel. Betty is survived by her 11 children, Gerald (Debbie) Carr, of California, Lily (Ron) Gates, of Arizona, Ralph (Deborah) Carr of California, Dena (Kenny) Maier, of California, Dorthy (Paul) Hall, of California, Betty Ann (Donnie) Davis, of Oklahoma, Judy (Waymoth) Peal, of Oklahoma, Thomas Powell, of Oklahoma, Richard Powell, of Arizona, Dutch Powell, of Arizona, and Bobby Powell of Oklahoma; 31 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edmond Powell; her parents; brother, Hylas "Hikey" A. Lewis; and her great-granddaughter, Jaelyn Shrabel. A private family gathering will take place.
