Sybil McKeand Fore
1926 - 2012
Sybil McKeand Fore, 86, passed Nov. 29, 2012, in Prescott, Ariz., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Sybil was born April 22, 1926, in Coleman County, Texas, to Robert H. and Violet S. McKeand.
In Winslow, during WWII, she met her future husband, Derrick "Dick" Dixon Fore, while she was working at a soda fountain and he was in the Navy. She graduated from Winslow High School and they were married on Feb. 24, 1944. While living in Winslow, Sybil and Dick owned and operated the Sand and Sage Motel on Route 66 and gave birth to three daughters, Sherry Lee, Dixie Lou and Laura Lynn.
After selling the Sand and Sage Motel, she and Dick moved to Camp Verde, Ariz., and lived on a 10-acre ranch they named "Tenafore." They boarded horses on the ranch and watched coyotes and Canada geese from their back porch.
In 2004, on the death of her husband Dick, Sybil built a home in Prescott, Ariz., near her daughter Dixie Fore Irvine. Sybil moved into this home in Prescott in 2005.
Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roscoe and sister Bonnie, husband Dick Fore, and eldest daughter, Sherry Fore Parker.
She is survived by her sister Helen Schell; son-in-law Russell Parker of Prescott; daughters, Dixie Fore Irvine of Prescott and Laura Fore of Phoenix; grandchildren, Aaron Parker (Sherry) of Ranier, Wash., Susan Burgess (Mike) of Ridgecrest, Calif., Kerrie O'Brien (Steve) of Prescott, Ivy Irvine (Patrick) of Missoula, Mont., Daniel Guendel and Madeline Guendel of Phoenix; and great grandchildren, Derrick O'Brien and Kierra O'Brien.
A private memorial is planned.
