SCHAAL, Laurie Louise

Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Laurie Louise Schaal (March 19, 1954 - December 7, 2012) Laurie Louise Schaal, age 58, passed away in Flagstaff on December 7, 2012, after courageously battling ALS for more than 5 years. Laurie was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1954, and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Phoenix, Arizona where she attended Washington High School. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Wildlife Biology. She had an active 32 year career in the U.S. Forest Service and spent her adult life in Flagstaff. Laurie had a passion for nature and the outdoors, and talent as a painter; capturing many of these images in art. She loved her pets, taking long walks with her four-legged companions; and visiting with friends. Laurie is survived by her parents, Richard and Sheila Kuelbs, her brothers Rick (Sheila) and Doug Kuelbs, sisters Barb Kuelbs and Beth (Steve) Ortiz, five nieces and nephews, a great niece and nephew, and her dog Rika. Contributions in Laurie's memory can be made to the ALS Association or your local animal shelter. Memorial services are planned for 2:00 p.m., December 22nd at the Elks Lodge in Flagstaff, Arizona and for 2:00 p.m., December 23rd at the Church of the Palms in Sun City, Arizona.
