Shirley Kramer
Our Mother, Shirley Iris Kramer, passed away Nov. 25, 2012 in Phoenix.
She was 79 years old.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1933 in Warsaw, Ind., to Wilbur and Nellie Burns Judd.
She graduated from high school in Monticello, Ill., and then joined the Marine Corps in 1951. During that time, she met Donald Eugene Kramer, whom she married on Dec. 3, 1955. He was also in the Marine Corps.
She was discharged in 1956, and when Don returned to the states from being in the military overseas, they moved to the western states to work in the oil fields.
She was the mother to three daughters, all born in Cortez, Colo.
She went to work for Texas Gulf Sulphur in Moab, Utah, during the mid-1960s where she was employed until her retirement in the late 1980s. At that time, she lived in Wyoming and was the head of the safety department at their soda ash mine.
She loved taking care of her yard, quilting, crocheting, cooking for lots of people, camping, being with her dog Rocky, playing cards with friends, listening to music, reading, and her church.
She was married 53 years to Don, who passed away in 2008.
She is survived by two of her daughters, Melody Anderson of Richland, Iowa, and Lee Richards of Green River, Wyo; four grandchildren -- Tiffany, Thomas and Harmon (Melody’s children), and Kimberly (Lee’s daughter); and seven great-grandchildren -- Alex, Memphis, Tyler, Victoria and Robbie (Kim’s children), Owen (Tom’s son), and Ila (Harmon’s daughter).
She was preceded in death by her daughter Dee Anna Kramer (1975), and her siblings Robert Judd and Carol Judd Kimble.
She and her husband had made their home permanently in Salome since 2006. Mom had great friends everywhere but especially in Salome and surrounding communities. She will be missed.
We want to thank everyone who assisted our parents during the time they lived in Arizona. Special thanks are extended to Sharon, Bill, Marie, Alice and Marie, who helped Mom so much during her illness.
A remembrance celebration will be held for Shirley later in January. The specific date will be published a week or two in advance.
She will join her husband in Prescott at the military establishment as a final resting place. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Centennial Public Library, P.O. Box 309, Salome, AZ 85348.
