Beloved mother and grandmother, Ida Mae Taylor Williams, passed over Oct 23, 2012. She was born March 22, 1918, to Bernice and Joseph Taylor, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Albert and Owen Taylor.
In 1931, ay age 13, Ida Mae's family moved to Boulder City to work on the Boulder Dam project. In 1934, she married the love of her life, George Williams and they were blessed with two sons, Bill and Melvin. Ida Mae considered it a privilege to have witnessed the births of Boulder City, "Boulder" Hoover Dam from bedrock up and the population explosion of Las Vegas. She served on the board of the Boulder Dam Historical Society, Boulder City 31'ers Club as treaurer, her car license plate read "31 ers BC." Ida Mae volunteered throughout her lifetime, we would be tasked to list them all. Dedicated to Grace Community Church, Ida Mae arranged receptions for 35 years, taught crafts in vacation Bible school and volunteered when and whereever needed. Grace Community Church honored her with the "Red Plate" award for 50 years of service and the "Gold Leaf" for over 50 years membership. Ida Mae was board member for Rainbow Girls and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star (holding positions at local and state levels), receiving her 50-year service pin in 1993. In 1976, Preceptar Chapter Beta Sigma Phi honored Ida Mae as Boulder City "Lady of the Year." After Ida Mae's husband, George Williams, passed in 1977, she held several interesting jobs, first in Brian Head, Utah at Mountain Market Place, then afternoon cook of BC Care Center and last, and most loved, she was the manager/hostess of the Los Angeles Department of Water Lodge. Ida Mae retired going back to her lovely Boulder City home after eight years at the lodge. Continuing her volunteering, sewing, reading, raising and arranging beautiful roses, then at age 80, she learned to quilt and continued making many gifts tagged "Made with love, by Ida Mae" or "Grandma." In 2005, Ida Mae moved to Las Vegas to be near her family.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Williams and his wife, Peggy, of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Melvin Williams and his wife, Linda of Las Vegas; her beautiful seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Ida Mae was the center of her family's lives, celebrating every family event. Ida Mae's birthdays were always special events, but she was delighted with her 90th--a "Red Hat Party," which featured a cheese cake in the shape of a red hat with a pluming purple feather. It was held at Grace Community Church, she was in her glory, being with her family, friends and her church family. She lamented, "it was perfect." Ida Mae enjoyed life to the maximum, filling it with beauty and being a living example of love, grace, and giving heart. Our family trusts that she has been welcomed into the "Beautiful Garden of our Precious Lord."
Graveside services at 1pm Saturday, Nov 10, at Boulder City Cemetery--Pavilion, 501 Adams Blvd. No services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Community Church.
