Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona Fred Larry Jones (August 30, 1938 - December 24, 2012) Fred L. Jones, 74, entered eternal rest on December 24, 2012 peacefully after a long battle of illness. Fred was born to Althea B. and Hubert Jones on August 30, 1938 in Sheffield, Alabama. Most of his adult life he lived in Yuma AZ where he owned and operated several service stations over a thirty year period. For his retirement years he relocated to the Cedar Hills, East of Snowflake. Fred was an avid fan of college sports, loved tending his orchard, and enjoyed landscaping, fishing and camping. He knew his way around the kitchen as long as there was cast iron cookware. He was also a master griller come rain, hail, sleet or snow. Fred was a veteran, serving from September 13, 1955 to September 12, 1961 as an erecting machinist in the U.S. Navy. Fred is survived by his wife of 37 years Susan; one daughter, Lee Ann Ward, from a previous marriage, her husband Trevor, and their two children Chuck and Rebecca. Fred has three living sisters: Sandy Tennison, Sherry Surdock and Patricia Gail Dail, and her husband Rick. He also is survived by one special uncle, Sam Jones, and many nieces and nephews.
