MSGT William J. Thomas Sr., 85 of Chandler, AZ, was born February 22, 1919 in Hopewell, Virginia and passed away March 20, 2004 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Phoenix, AZ. Funeral services for William were held Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Valley of the Sun Mausoleum Chapel, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ. Visitation was held Tuesday, April 6, 2004, also in the Mausoleum Chapel. MSGT Thomas a civil engineer also served in the United Sates Air Force for 32 years as an Inventory Management Supervisor. Prior to serving in the Air Force, he served in the Army-AirCorps, as a Buffalo Soldier with the 93rd Infantry Division at Fort Huachucha, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Irene Virginia Thomas of Chandler, AZ; Daughters Deborah A. Thomas of Chandler, AZ; Margie Searcy of Raleigh, NC; Sons, William J. Thomas Jr. of Chandler, AZ; Shaun L. Thomas of Chandler, AZ; and Grandson Samuel W. Searcy of Raleigh, NC. The Arizona Republic on 4/4/2004.
