Falconer Funeral Home, Gilbert, Arizona Janet Louise Cowan November 8, 1944 ~ December 24, 2012 Janet Louise Cowan of Phoenix passed away on December 24, 2012 in Phoenix, she was 68 years old. Janet was born in Eureka, Kansas. She attended Emporia State University and graduated in 1967. After graduating, she pursued a career as a medical technologist specializing in blood banking. She earn her Masters Degree and went on to become the Director of the SBB School at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She retired from United Blood Systems where she was a Regional Director for Quality Assurance. She enjoyed playing golf, quilting and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Jay Cowan of Phoenix, her daughter Paula and Tyler Dumas of Gilbert, and her son Christopher and Amanda Cowan of Gilbert and the 7 Grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 30, 2012 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM with funeral services to follow at 4:00 PM at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ . Interment will be in Greenwood County Cemetery, Eureka, Kansas following services in Arizona. ~~~~~~~~~~ Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, Kansas Janet Louise Cowan of Phoenix, Arizona died on Monday, December 24, 2012 in Phoenix, at the age of 68. She was born on November 8, 1944, in Eureka, the daughter of John and Christine (Cook) Schlotterbeck. She attended Emporia State University and graduated in 1967. After graduating, she pursued a career as a medical technologist specializing in blood banking. Janet earned her Master's Degree and went on to become the Director of the Specialist in Blood Bank School at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She retired from United Blood Systems where she was a Regional Director for Quality Assurance. She enjoyed playing golf, quilting and spending time with her family. Janet is survived by her husband of 47 years Jay Cowan of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Paula and husband, Tyler Dumas of Gilbert, Arizona; son, Christopher and wife, Amanda Cowan of Gilbert, Arizona; and seven grandchildren. Brothers Steven John Schlotterbeck and Jim Stapleford of Albany Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 11, 2013 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka with Pastor James Stapleford officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center.
