DUNCAN, Maryann

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, December 23, 2012 - Maryann Duncan went to be with Jesus Dec. 10, 2012. She was born in Wichita, Kan., Dec. 3, 1924. Maryann’s professional life outside the home was nursing. Among the many accomplishments was a degree from Johns Hopkins, many years as night supervisor for a hospital of about 500 beds in Wichita, Kan., and upon moving to Arizona in 1972, serving in nursing in all areas of hospitals in Lake Havasu City, Parker and Needles, Calif. Maryann was quite adamant that all human life was a gift from God and needed to be treated with dignity and respect. She insisted upon that care not only from herself, but also her co-workers. Maryann was quite a people person; it was not uncommon for her to go out and meet numerous friends in a grocery store, turning a one-hour shopping expedition into a two-hour or more trip. It has been said of Maryann that there were no strangers, just people she hadn’t met yet. Maryann enjoyed reading and it was common for her to no more than finish one book and pick up another to start reading it. She is survived by two children, son, James C. Duncan (Ursula); daughter, Teri Sweet (Bill); two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, James N. Duncan; children, Gregory Clark and Anne Marie; and her sister, Juanita Balducchi
