John "Jack" Henderson Shinn Jr. passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Kingman Regional Medical Center. He was 71.
John was born in Chicago on May 15, 1941. He grew up in Davenport, Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Dubuque.
John spent his life in public service. He started his 30-year government career as a civil servant with the Department of Defense. For most of his career, he worked for the Social Security Administration.
Upon retiring, he got a part-time job with the Kingman branch of the Mohave County Library.
He was a member of Kiwanis International for many years. He then joined the Elks Lodge. John also served on the Kingman Bowling Association; bowling was his favorite recreational activity.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Delores; and his two daughters, Angela Smith (Gary) of Cibolo, Texas, and Holly Shinn of Tucson. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Bailey Lynn Smith of San Marcos, Texas, and cousins in Iowa and Illinois.
A memorial service is being held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2101 Harrison St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Elks.
