Bruce Evert McCay, city pioneer and former council member, passed away Dec. 12, 2012 at the age of 92. Bruce was born in Miami, Fla., April 19, 1920, to Howard and Rose (Schneider) McCay.
Following high school graduation, Bruce entered the University of Miami to study engineering and in 1942 entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Following a brief stint in the Army, Bruce became a general contractor, building homes, medical and commercial offices and renovating projects. In 1965, Bruce married his wife, Carley, and four years later, made Lake Havasu City their home. Bruce continued to build homes and in his spare time enjoyed writing, walking and exploring. Bruce served for eight years on the Lake Havasu City Council, actively participating in city planning, engineering, health services, economic development, the airport authority and the schools.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Carley; and is survived by his sister, Rosemary Cone and her husband, Bob, of Green Valley, Ariz.
Memorial services will take place at Community Presbyterian Church, where Bruce was an active member, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to Community Presbyterian Church in Bruce’s name.
