Ferne passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. She was born on May 22, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ernie and Emily Ann Canham.
Ferne was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Robert and Billie Jim; sister, Florence; youngest daughter, Roni Lee Hawkins; and grandson, Anthony Hawkins. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rolland "Ron"; daughter, DiAna; granddaughter, Amber (Daniel) Lopez; great-grandchildren, Che, Alexis and Daniel; great-grandchildren, John Hawkins, Becky and Chuck.
Ferne and her mother moved to Kingman in 1939. She went to school in Kingman. She joined the WAAC in 1944 and married an Air Force sergeant, but divorced him after 10 years. She and her daughter, DiAna, moved back to Kingman and lived with her mother. Ferne and Ron had known each other since they were 8 years old. They met again in Kingman and started dating. They were married May 22 in Virginia City, Nev., and had their honeymoon in a forestry service lookout tower. It was 1954. It was a great 58 years together.
Living Waters Hospice ladies cared for Ferne for her last days. They were so good and treated her with loving care.
