HOLGATE, John E.


John E. Holgate was born Feb. 12, 1931 in Phoenix. He was the only child of E. N. "Ernie" Holgate and Isabelle Holgate. John was the loving husband of Elayne "Layni". He adored his four daughters, Traci Crowley, Vicki Biggs, Tamy Hove and Tina Nixon and was his son John A. Holgate's best friend. John had six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. John was educated locally, graduating from North Phoenix High School and attended Phoenix College. He was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps and the Arizona Air National Guard during the Korean conflict. He made his living as a business owner and sales executive from which he retired many years ago. John was civically active as a former member of the Kiva Club, Arizona Club and Phoenix Kiwani's Club and American Legion Post #1 and Post #29. He was a past Maricopa County Chairman of the March of Dimes, past National Chairman of the "Voice of Democracy" for the National Association of Broadcasters and was a lifetime member of Jaycees and Junior Chamber International Senator. His wonderful sense of humor and quick wit kept all of his many friends entertained for years. He will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please send contribution to "Children's Wish Foundation." visitation/viewing on Friday, April 9th, 2004 at Advantage Colonial Chapel, 4141 N. 19th Ave., Phoenix, with services on Saturday at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery at 27th and Van Buren in the Serenity Chapel with burial to follow at Greenwood's Veteran's Cemetery.
