Modie passed away Jan l, 2013 in her home in Winslow, AZ. She was born Oct. 4 1934 in Winslow AZ. She was a very loving Mother, Grandmother and Sister, She enjoyed her daily routine to Circle K to get her cup of coffee, pound cake and of course her scratchers. What would put a smile on her face the most was going to church on Sundays, Bingo night, taking trips to the casino's going camping fishing and spending time with her kids and grand kids. In her younger years she also liked to make homemade dolls, sew & knit. Most importantly something she did was make the famous HERNANDEZ TAMALES which the whole town enjoyed.
Modie was a very hard working woman and was known as the "tamale lady". She was very loved and respected by so many people. She always made sure there was a warm home to go to for all her family and food to eat.
Something she would ask the minute you walk through her door was If you were hungry. There would always be something warming up on the stove. If you didn't make you a plate to eat right away she would continue to ask you over and over until you did.
Modie's survivors Include her sister Dora Gallegos & son Victor Hernandez. Also her 11 grandkids 18 great grand kids and 1 great-great granddaughter.
By her side every moment the last year of her life was her Grandson Jimmy Jr. and her granddaughter Gaylena. She also was visited by a lot of other family and friends, including a few people from the church that would stop by every Sunday to give her communion, since she was not strong enough to go to church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Doreteo Hernandez, father Ben and mother Domatila Chavez, sister Rose, brothers Ralph and Margarito, also her 3 sons Teddy, Jimmy and Eddie and daughter in law Barbara.
Grandma you are the matriarch of our family and will always and forever be in our hearts. Now you can rest in peace and have no more pain. I'm sure you and the whole family had a HUGE New Year's party the day you entered into Heaven. We will all miss you so very much!
