CUSHING,
Marjorie
Marjorie Cushing, born March 20, 1912 near Arlington, Indiana, passed away April 6, 2004 in Dallas, Texas.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, 401 N. Hayden Rd. in Scottsdale, followed by a Memorial Service at East Mesa Christian Church, 706 S. Greenfield Rd. in Mesa.
Her husband, Robert M. Cushing, and her daughter, Shirley L. Williams, preceded her in death.
She spent her childhood in Indiana, but moved to Arizona with her parents when her dad was diagnosed with TB and graduated from Tucson High School. Singing was very much a part of her life and it was through her participation with the church choir in Tucson that she met her eventual life partner, Robert Cushing. They eventually settled in Tempe and were active in both the community and their church.
The National Office of the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church hired her to be the Religious Education coordinator for the region. During that time she established Youth Conferences, help start the Chi Rho camps, and held teacher training sessions around the state for the church. She was at Arizona State University for twenty-five years as the Film Librarian and also did the business work for Central Arizona Film Cooperative. She also became very involved in photography and was active in both the PSA and the Saguaro Camera Club.
She moved to Sunland Village in Mesa in 1977 following her husband's death, and was active in the life of the Village and East Mesa Christian Church in Mesa. She enjoyed traveling and loved her family a great deal. Her love, humor, smile and twinkle will be missed.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Elliott Cushing, and by three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Robin and Mel Caraway, Leslie and Jack Bergeron, Sherri and David Lyle; and by great-grandchildren Patrick Bergeron, Tim Bergeron, Amy Bergeron, and Chris Caraway, and by two great great grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
