CAMPOLONGO, Teresa


Teresa Campolongo, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on April 3, 2004 after a long struggle with cancer. She was 72. Teresa was born in Calabria, Italy on March 20, 1932 and came to the United States as an infant through Ellis Island. She spent her early childhood in Oregon, Illinois. She moved to Phoenix with her family in 1946. She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1950. She attended Arizona State College (now University), graduating in 1954. She attained a Master of Education from Columbia University, New York City, in 1956. Teresa returned to Phoenix and taught high school English for 30 years at West, Central and Camelback high schools, where she was better known as Mrs. Campo. She was a devoted mother who passed her love of culture, learning and the outdoors to her son. She especially enjoyed spending summers in San Diego and taking weekend trips to Arizona's high country. She is survived by her son, Christopher, of Boca Raton, Florida, her brother Vincent of Yorba Linda, California, and three gregarious grandchildren, Scott, Skye and Shay. A memorial mass was held Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 East Campbell Avenue, Phoenix with a reception immediately following.
