Betty Jean Remington (1926-2012), long-time Havasu resident, died Dec. 27, 2012 at age 86. Betty was born in Detroit, Mich., where she married John Remington in 1946 after he returned from service in World War II as a Marine. She and family moved to California in 1952 where she began at General Motors as a data input specialist in accounts payable.
John died in 1970 and Betty returned to Michigan shortly thereafter when General Motors relocated their headquarters. During her time at General Motors she rose to the position of regional auditor, responsible for the southeastern sector of the U.S. Initially coming to Lake Havasu as a snowbird from Michigan, Betty fell in love with the region. She decided to retire and moved here in 1984 with her long-time friend Margaret Almon, who passed away just two years ago. After moving to Lake Havasu,
Betty worked for several years at the London Bridge Resort in accounts receivable/payable and remained close friends with her boss, Tom Flatley and his family. Betty lived a full life. She loved singing and often sang at GM gatherings. She had a passion for bowling, at which she was quite skilled and rightly proud, having won many trophies. She also had an inexplicable passion for golf, at which she was no good at all, but enjoyed immensely. She and Margaret traveled extensively in the U.S., making friends wherever they went. Betty is survived by her three children, Roger Remington, Barbara Remington and Dorothy Remington; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many close friends and the city she loved.
There will be a gathering to remember her on Saturday, 3 p.m. at 251 Sunflower Drive.
