Lee George Ashby, age 84, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Kingman. He was born July 4, 1928, to Clinton L. and Annie Draper Ashby in Sparks, Nev. He was raised in Sparks and attended Sparks schools, graduating from Sparks High School in 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verla; a brother, Clinton; his first wife, Julia; and his second wife, JoAnn.
Surviving are his sister, Alice Corbridge of Sparks; two sons, Nathan Ashby of Sacramento, Calif., and Paul Ashby of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Kymberle West of Lemoore, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was living with his nephew and family, Kelly and Colleen Corbridge, in Kingman at the time of his death.
After high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Central States Mission. He worked at the Sparks Theatre, First National Bank and Ross Photo. He was drafted into the Army.
After returning from the service, he attended Brigham Young University, where he met and married Julia Ann Farnsworth. He soon decided to make the Army a career and enlisted. He served in Korea, Vietnam, Japan and Germany, retiring after 20 years. He married his second wife, JoAnn Dee Hood, and lived in Huntington Beach, Calif., for many years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3180 Rutherford Drive, Kingman. Burial will be in Clearfield, Utah, at a later date.
We wish to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his illness this past month at Kingman Regional Medical Center, the Veterans Administration in Kingman and the Joan and Diana Hospice Home in Kingman.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends from church and the Kingman Senior Center, where he enjoyed the Thursday Jam Sessions dancing with the lovely ladies there.
