News - Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona March 28, 2000, page 4 Margot Craw Gardner, Physician Margot Craw Gardner, 76, died March 24, 2000, at Havasu Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 8, 1923, at Christchurch, New Zealand. She graduated from college with a chemistry degree and was a lecturer in chemistry at the University of Brisbane, Australia, from 1946-1948. She returned to New Zealand and received her MD at Dunedin University. In those days everyone who graduated immediately went to Europe because they were afraid they would fall off the end of the world if they stayed in New Zealand. She was a ship’s doctor on [a] refrigerator ship hauling lamb to South Hampton, England, In England, she qualified in Anesthesiology at Oxford. She practiced in several places in Europe including Copenhagen and with [the] Royal Canadian Air Force in Germany. She came to the University of Pennsylvania as a teaching and research fellow in about 1956. She practiced in a number of hospitals in the Philadelphia area for any years. She and her husband, Edwin Sobey, retired in 1973 and traveled in their motor home looking for a place to settle. They stopped in Lake Havasu City to visit Dr. Butler and his family and liked it so much they settled here. They divorced in 1976. She was in general practice in Lake Havasu from 1974 until Oct. 1, 1978 when she again retired. She married Bradley C. Gardner Sept. 16, 1978. She enjoyed traveling and painting. She was [a] patron of the arts and a long time member of the Lake Havasu Art Guild. She was a member of Soroptomists International, PEO and the American Medical Association. She enjoyed duplicate bridge and played for many years. She is survived by her husband Bradley Gardner of Lake Havasu City; stepson Edwin Sobey of Redmond, Wash.; stepdaughters Katharine Cipolla of Boston, Mass., Jessica Conaway of Marrioyysville Md. And Helen Horowitz of Fresno, Calif.; brother, Graeme Craw of New Zealand; two nephews and five step-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at noon, Wednesday, March 29 at Grace Episcopal Church with Father George Gray officiating. Contributions may be made in her name to the National Parkinsons Foundation.
