BLOCK, Robert S.


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, January 12, 2013 Robert S. Block, born on May 22, 1922, to Edwin and Rachel Block of Prescott, Ariz., was called home to the Lord on Jan. 8, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faye Block, daughters Toni (Prema) Schramm (Fred Metzger) and Terri Bradshaw; his son, James Block; grandchildren Tara Woods (Brent Woods), Beau Kitchen (Mary Jess Kitchen), Tamar Kirk and Stefanie Knighten (Jason Richter); and great-grandchildren Katie and Kyle Woods, Bryson and Ella Kitchen, Braden Smith and Addison Richter. Robert enlisted in the armed forces on Dec. 23, 1942, served his country honorably, was captured and placed in a POW camp. He was rescued and discharged with honor and received the Silver Star. He retired from Arizona Public Service after 30-plus years. Robert loved the outdoors and traveled frequently with his family. He was also a Smoki ceremonial dancer. He was very active at the First Baptist Church of Prescott, enjoyed coin- and stamp-collecting and bird-watching, and was an avid maker and eater of home-made ice cream. Robert was well-known and will be greatly missed. Services will be at the First Baptist Church of Prescott, located on the corner of Marina and Goodwin streets, 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Master's Clothes Closet and Soup Kitchen, also located at the First Baptist Church. Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Information provided by survivors.
