HERRING, Richard L. (Bud)


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 RICHARD L. “BUD” HERRING, 83, passed away Monday January 14, 2013, at Hamlin. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Hamlin Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Bud was born May 9, 1929 to Clay and Gula (Graves) Herring at Quanah, Texas. He married Virginia Mayfield May 24, 1952 at Lawton, Oklahoma. Bud served in the National Guard for eight years and received his engineering degree. He was employed at REA in Stamford for thirteen years before moving to Arizona to work for Arizona Public Service. Bud worked for Arizona Public Service in Sedona, Flagstaff and Prescott, Arizona as a construction supervisor and electrical engineer from 1964 until retiring in 1990. They moved back to Hamlin in 1999. He was an excellent pilot who loved fishing and water skiing. Bud was also very involved with the Little League and Babe Ruth League and won his first twenty-nine games as a coach. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamford and often attended the First United Methodist Church. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, one son (Richard Herring, Jr. in 1992), two brothers and four sisters. Bud is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Virginia Herring of Hamlin; son and daughter-in-law, John and Sherry Herring of Cottonwood, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Michael McLaughlin of Flagstaff, Arizona; six grandchildren, Nicholas Cosper and his wife Jaana, Sandy Cosper, Keith Herring, Christy Herring, Madison McLaughlin and Taylor McLaughlin; two great-grandchildren, Blayden Cosper and Brock Cosper; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and James Cox of Lake Jackson, Texas.
