Bunker Family Funeral & Cremation, Mesa, Arizona Gus Kambouris August 4, 1924 ~ January 13, 2013 Gus Kambouris passed away peacefully early Sunday morning January 13, 2013, with his daughter by his side. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, August 4, 1924 to Efstratios Kambouris and Mary K DeVine. He married Jean Tillman on April 1, 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. Gus was an extremely accomplished man having served as a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during WWII. He worked for the Department of Defense for Twenty-nine years. During this time he served two tours overseas including Trois Fontaines Ammunition Depot in France and Camp Zama Japan. The rest of his Civil Service was spent at Navajo Army Depot in Flagstaff and at Fort Huachuca. After “retiring” Gus then drove bus for the Sierra Vista Public School System and was a realtor for several years. He was also a favorite tour guide doing high profile visitor tours at Kartchner Caverns until moving to Mesa. Gus was a beloved Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. He was dedicated to the beliefs and charitable nature of the organization. He was Past Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy, and Past State Vice President. Gus was preceded in death by his wife Jean Kambouris, his sister Marie Wytroval and brother George Kambouris, his nephew Gene Kambouris. He is survived by his sister Dorothea O’Shaughnessy, daughter Jackie Kambouris, granddaughter Jeannie (Brett) Davis, great grandchildren Isaac, Kyber, baby Davis and numerous nieces and nephews. All of whom were the light of his life. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to all his accomplishments Gus was a happy, sweet, kind, silly, funny, intelligent, loving, caring, compassionate, generous, selfless, and truly amazing man. He was the favorite uncle, the best husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather anyone could ever ask for. He will be greatly missed but he left a legacy that will not be forgotten. There will be a Memorial Service Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2PM at the Sierra Vista Elks Lodge #2065, 1 Elks Lane, Sierra Vista AZ 85635. In lieu of Flowers Gus wanted donations to the Arizona Elks Major Projects, Inc. PO Box 2619, Sierra Vista Arizona 85636. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
