Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Saturday, January 19, 2013 - Janette Louise Hassebroek (Jean), 88, died Saturday Jan. 5, 2013 at Prestige Assisted Living in Lake Havasu City. Janette was born Aug. 17, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Clarence and Lois (Huffaker) Rose. Janette was the second of seven children. Janette married Frederick R. Hassebroek on June 4, 1954 in Spokane, Wash. Janette spent most of her adult life in Spokane, Wash., two and a half years on Okinawa, and the last 25 years in Lake Havasu City. She was an outstanding waitress and had many return customers who came to eat her homemade pies. She loved her family and was devoted to her husband of 59 years. He was her prince charming (in an Air Force uniform). She was an avid quilter who passed down this passion to her daughters and her youngest granddaughter. She belonged to a quilt group at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City. She loved volunteering at Havasu Regional Medical Center and logged in over 6600 hours. Janette is survived by her husband, Frederick R. Hassebroek of Lake Havasu City; her children, Lois Connery of Sun City, Lester Norman of Bingen, Wash., Bob Norman (Judy) of Spokane, Wash., Linda Angel (Bill) of Priest River, Idaho and Suzanne Barsness (Loren) of Lynnwood, Wash.; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. One son, Charles Norman preceded her in death. There will be no services per her request. A celebration of Janette’s life will take place July 2013 at the Family Reunion in Spokane, Wash.
