HOFFMAN, Hampton L.C.


Published in San Gabriel Valley Tribune on March 21, 2003 Hampton L.C. Hoffman HOFFMAN -Mr. Hampton L.C. Hoffman, 81 years, of 409 Lynnewood Road, Watsontown, Delaware Township, Northumberland County, PA, died at 12:19 A.M., Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at his residence. He had lived in Prescott Arizona & in Covina, California for 50 years, prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 1985. Mr. Hoffman was born in San Diego, California on December 24, 1921, the son of the late Commander Ogden J. and Anna Hampton (Carson) Hoffman, who had resided in Philadelphia, PA. On April 15, 1944 he was married to the former Elaine (Borkenhagen), who preceded him on November 23, 1981. He married on May 23, 1987 the former Mary L. (Huckestein) McCracken who survives. Mary & Hampton met in China on a study tour of Health Care in mainland China in 198 5. Mr. Hoffman graduated from UCLA with a BSA in Psychology and also earned from UCLA his MSW in Social Work. He was employed for 37 years at the Hacker Clinic in Beverly Hills, California that provided therapy for the stars; retiring in 1985. He was devoted to his work and was a gifted & caring person to those he treated. Mr. Hoffman served with the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. As a point of interest, he studied piano under John Crown; becoming a concert pianist at the Los Angeles City Coll ege, prior to his military committments. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Society for clinical social work. Additional memberships include: the Sierra Club - Amnesty International, USA & the American Civil Liberties Union. Mr. Hoffman was the grandson of the former Atty. General of Pennsylvania: Hampton Lawrence Carson. He also, with his wife, Mary traveled extensively across the United States and to 52 countries, including Antarctica. He was an authority on the Holocaust & the Third Reich. Mr. Hoffman was a Breeder of Purebred Pekingese for 17 years, including (2) AKC Champions. In addition to his wife, Mary; a former school nurse for the Milton Area School District, are: one son, Lawrence Carson Hoffman of Cheney, Washington; one daughter, Monica Huckestein of Altenkleustein, Germany; three grandchildren, Briana & Trevin Hoffman & Jack Huckestein; one brother, The Rev. J. Ogden Hoffman of Sacramento, California; eight nieces & nephews. Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Hoffman and three sisters, Nancy Smith & Florence Satchell & Audry Cowan. Mr. Hoffman will be cremated per his wishes and there will be no services. The ashes will be interred in the Mountain view Cemetery, Prescott, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to: Amnesty International, USA, P.O. Box 96834, Washington, DC 20090-6834.
