CAVANESS, Helen Isabel

Cavaness, Helen Isabel (Drummond) 90, of Phoenix, passed away October 12, 2011. She was born in Butte, Montana to Robert T. Drummond and Dorothy I. (Doubleday) Drummond. Helen attended Emerson and Kenilworth elementary schools and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1939. She then became a Cosmetologist and owned and operated Helen's Beauty Shop until her marriage to Walter F. Cavaness on August 12, 1956. Helen met Walter when she took square-dancing lessons and from that time, they were active members and officers of the Isaac Squares, where they formed many long and dear friendships. Helen's greatest love was her family and she pursued her interest in genealogy for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and stepson, Walter Cavaness, and her twin brother, Robert E. Drummond. Helen is survived by her sister, Zola (Drummond) Newton; niece, Donna Owen; nephew, Gary (Tracy) Newton; stepson, Richard (Maggie) Cavaness; stepdaughter, Darlene Landacre and many great nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Helen's family wishes to thank Beverly's Hospice Care Home and Hospice of the Valley for the compassionate care they gave to Helen. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Valley would be appreciated. Hospice of the Valley 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ 85014. Visitation will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 10-11 am with services starting at 11:00 am at A.L. Moore Grimshaw 710 W. Bethany Home Rd. Phoenix.
