CHATWIN, Melbalyn (Mel)


Melbalyn (Mel) Chatwin, 56, was born in Phoenix, Arizona on May 1, 1947, to Kenneth C. and Melba Lloyd Chatwin. She grew up in Phoenix and graduated from North Phoenix High School. She received her AA degree in 1967 from Phoenix College. She continued her education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Mel had many interests and talents. She played the violin and piano. She enjoyed crafts and made many handcrafted gifts for her family and friends. Mel loved politics and government. She served as the Arizona State Extraditions Officer from 1986-1988. She was a precinct committee chairperson for many years and volunteered many hours in the service of her party. At the time of her death, she was the Administrative Assistant to Senator Marilyn Jarrett, the Arizona Senate Majority Whip. Mel passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004 after a brief illness. Mel was preceded in death by her mother, Melba Chatwin. Survivors include her father, Kenneth C. Chatwin, sisters, Rita (Sidney) Mitchell and Kathryn (Gregg) Jossie. She is also survived by her 7 nieces and nephews and 23 grand nieces and nephews. Mel was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in the LDS Church, 8602 N. 31st Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. Visitation prior to the service. Arrangements will be handled by Best Funeral Services.
