Mr. Beekman was born on May 7, 1919, in Ziegler, Ill. to John and Georgine (Welsch) Beekman. He graduated from Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Mo. in 1938. Ed served in the U.S. Army from March 18, 1941, until May 7, 1945. He was stationed at the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was married to Rosalind Westfall Beekman from 1942 until her death in 2002. Ed was a self-employed photographer for most of his life. He built successful photography studios in Brentwood and in Prescott, Ariz., where he and Rosie moved in 1974. From 2007 until his death, he lived in Warrensburg at the Missouri Veterans Home. He is survived by his two sons, George and Larry; and by three grandchildren, Ben, Johanna and Laurel. Ed often told his sons "It doesn't matter what kind of work you do, but you should enjoy it because you'll be doing it a long time." He also said "You should find a place you love and live there." Larry focused on the first piece of advice and became a professional musician; George fell in love with Oregon and moved there immediately after he graduated from college. The day after Ed died, George wrote on Facebook: "He was a good man and he lived a good life." There will be a private graveside service in Arizona. The family suggests gifts in memory of Ed be made to Missouri Veterans Home - Warrensburg, Attn: Assistance League Donations, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, MO 64093.
