BAITMAN, Jacob (Jack)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Thursday, January 24, 2013 12:01 am | Updated: 10:57 pm, Wed Jan 23, 2013 - Jack Baitman, 87, passed away after a long illness Dec. 18, 2012, at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin, Ill., surrounded by four generations of family. Born Jan. 4, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., Jack served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married his devoted wife, Gladys (nee Nebel), June 9, 1947. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from DePaul University and his CPA through U of I at Chicago. Jack taught evening classes in accounting at DePaul University from 1952 to 1972. He retired from ACCO Int., in 1985 after 32 years, serving as controller, credit manager, assistant treasurer, division treasurer and corporate treasurer. During his employment at ACCO, Jack served on the Board of Directors for the Stationary and Office Equipment Board of Trade for 19 years, including two as chairman. Jack lived in Chicago, Oak Lawn, Glenview, Lake Havasu City and Elgin. He served as chairman of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn for six years. He managed and coached boys baseball in Oak Lawn. He served on the Board of Directors of the Mens Association at Lutheran General Hospital for 10 years, including two as president. He was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City. Jack enjoyed bowling, tennis, swimming, playing cards with family and friends, traveling and visiting the national parks. He especially enjoyed playing baseball with friends from St. Paul. He was a devoted Chicago sports fan. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; son, Clay; daughter, Candy (Randy) Hansen; grandchildren, David (Heather), Jeremy (Kelly), Tiffany (Sebastian) Zaba, Brittany (Pepe Apablaza) Baitman; great-grandchildren, Madeline Baitman and Maximilian Zaba; sister-in-law, Beatrice McDermott and Laura Nebel; brother-in-law, Ernest Nebel and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie; sister, Shirley; brothers, Harry (Beatrice) and Martin; son, David and grandson, Austin (Dawn). A private service and burial with military honors took place Dec. 20, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park, Ill. Jack was devoted to his family, church and friends and will be missed by all.
