NEARNS, Joseph Paul


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 Joseph Paul Nearns, 62, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away at the Northern Arizona Veterans Administration Medical Center on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, with his wife Martha at his side. Joseph was born in Helena, Ark., on Feb. 11, 1949, to Joseph Eugene Nearns and Mabel Paulene (Polly) Nearns. He proudly served his country in Vietnam as an Army Sgt., assigned to HHC 17th Aviation Group (Combat) as a communications specialist in Nha Trang from September 1967 through November 1969. Upon his return from Vietnam, Joseph was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, and in Richmond, Va., before leaving the Army in 1974. After leaving the Army, Joseph went on to live in Honolulu, Hawaii, Little Rock, Ark., and Miami, Fla., before settling in Dixon, Mo., where he met his wife, Martha in October 2005. They were married in Waynesville, Mo. in February 2007, and moved to Tucson, Ariz. in April 2009. In May 2012, he and Martha moved to her hometown of Prescott, Ariz. Joseph had a love of learning, reading, computer programming, playing guitar and singing. He and Martha were each others' best friend, sharing everything in life, and he will be remembered as being a wonderfully thoughtful, loving husband. His warm, open personality, sense of humor, bright smile and gentle nature easily earned him many friends. He will live on in our hearts forever, and be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Nearns. Joseph is survived by his wife Martha (Snowden) Nearns of Prescott Valley; his mother Polly Nearns-Prewitt of Dixon, Mo.; his sister, Ramona (Bob) Moore of Dixon, Mo.; his stepdaughter, Leanne Williams (Kevin), their children, Logan, Ethan, and Emma, all of Tucson, Ariz.; and his stepson, Joseph Butitta (Cassi), and their children, Ayden, Xander and Mason, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.
