Harland J. Gonya Jr. died early Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Coming Home Hospice in San Francisco, Calif., after a long bout with Alzheimer's.
He was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Port Clinton, Ohio, the son of Harland Sr. and Martha (Bienko) Gonya. Harland was 74 years old.
Harland and his beloved wife Phyllis, who passed away in September 2012, moved to Prescott 11 years ago from New York. Harland was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a St. Vincent DePaul volunteer. He loved visiting lighthouses, traveling with Phyllis, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Harland is survived by his daughter Nance (Lorenzo) Donati of San Francisco, son Mark (Trisha) of Denver, brother Darrel of Toronto, Canada, and two grandsons, Alessandro and Max.
The family will have a memorial mass 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the St. Catherine LaBouré Catholic Church in Chino Valley followed by a procession to lay Harland to rest with Phyllis at Heritage Memorial Park, Fain Road, Dewey, Ariz.
