SHEPARD, Vera Dorothy

West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Friday, February 01, 2013 Vera Dorothy Shepard, 93, of Buckeye died Jan. 22, 2013, in Buckeye. Mrs. Shepard was born May 29, 1919, in Ashtabula, Ohio. She moved to Arizona 30 years ago. She was a registered nurse in Ashtabula, Ohio, and a member of First Christian Church in Glendale. She volunteered until the age of 87, making blankets, quilts and dresses for school children and helping at the church and Hospice. She was awarded the 3TV Spirit Award for her volunteer work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ralph Shepard Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Yale of Goodyear, Carol Micksch of Buckeye and Susan Roach of Glen Allen, Va.; one son, Herbert Shepard III of Crown King; two sisters, Lois Lillie and Laura Richmond of Jefferson, Ohio; one brother, Dale Hayes of Jefferson, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 6242 N. 59th Ave. in Glendale. The Rev. Jan Trulock will officiate.
