SHERMAN, Neil Warren


Neil Warren Sherman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away on January 9, 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona, after a sudden, brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan and Ruby Sherman, and son, Steven. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julia Maye (Judy) and sons, Dan (Geeta), and Jeffrey (Idalia), and grandchildren Monica, Michelle, Jeffrey Neil and Julie. Neil was born in Temple, Texas on 3 February 1925 and moved to Peoria, AZ, with his parents in 1930. A veteran of World War II, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. He graduated from Arizona State University with baccalaureate and master's degrees. A consummate educator, he began his career in a Phoenix elementary school before becoming an administrator. He taught extension courses at Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University; as well as colleges and universities in Colorado and California. He joined a private company to organize and start the Phoenix Job Corp where he served as Director for several years. He went on to become Vice President of Teledyne Economic Development Company and supervised the startup of Job Corps in Tucson, AZ, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Since his retirement, he took great pleasure in managing his real estate endeavors, traveling and enjoying his summers in Forest Lakes, AZ. Most recently he volunteered his services on the Board of Directors of his homeowners association as President. Most satisfying, however, was his pride, his devotion and love of his family - his legacy. Memorial services January 15, 2006 at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of Arizona: Hospice of Arizona Main Office - Phoenix 2222 West Northern Avenue, Suite (A - 100).
