Melvin Eugene Wood, 74, passed away Jan. 28, 2013 in Lake Havasu City. He was born Dec. 13, 1938, in Stockton, Calif., to Lee and Angeline Wood.
Mel attended IBEW Trade School while still in high school. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician in the US Navy aboard aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown from 1956-1959. From then until 2008, Mel worked as a journeyman electrician and was a member of the IBEW Electrical Union 357 out of Las Vegas.
In 2008, he retired from the union and obtained his electrical contractors license and opened Topic Electric with his wife, Karen. He donated his labor to various churches. Mel valued his clients and when his health prevented him from working, he had a hard time accepting it. He will be deeply missed.
Mel is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Karen Wood; son, Damon and his fiance, Jessyca; daughters, Cindy (Effrain) Herrera, Tonya, Annette and Doreen; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and his two dogs, Jake and Sasie, who were like his kids. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beverly Sartin and Pat Bonz; and stepsons, Scott and Jayson Gibson.
A Memorial service will be at Golden Shores Community Baptist Church Saturday, with Pastors Jason Smathers and George Lyman officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hopsice of Havasu.
