Ily Darrell
Ily Darrell Cummins, age 86, was born November 27, 1917 in English, Indiana, to Ily and Josie Cummins.
He had three brothers, Dale, Harold, and Harley, and one sister, Geneva.
At eighteen he joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. In 1941, soon after Pearl Harbor, he re-enlisted in the Navy as Botswain's Mate and served until the end of the World War II. He made fifteen, trips across the Atlantic to Egypt, Casablanca, North Africa, England, and Greenland, and two trips across the Pacific to Australia.
In 1942, he and Alice Day were married and had two sons, Timothy, in 1946 and Daniel, in 1949.
After being discharged he worked for an auto supply company in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1955. they moved to Phoenix for Alice and Daniel's health. He worked for Motor Supply Co. from 1955 to 1983. Ily was a 50 year mason. He loved traveling and building things - like additions to his home and a cabin at Payson.
Alice and Darrell have been happily married for 61 years and repeated their vows on their fiftieth anniversary in the middle of the Colorado River at Laughlin with family and friends. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Veteran's Hospital of Phoenix would be greatly appreciated. Funeral Services were held on Friday April 16th 2004, at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave.
