The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, February 03, 2013 Gretchen Martin Murdock, 65, of Prescott, Ariz., passed into the Lord's hands on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of 32 years. Gretchen was born in Macomb, Ill. and graduated high school in that area. She graduated from the Peoria Methodist School of Nursing in 1968 and completed her BS degree from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. in 1987. Gretchen was a trauma nurse at McDonough District hospital in Macomb, Ill. from 1969 to 1980. Also during this time period, she served as the first elected woman Coroner in the State of Illinois. She served as the McDonough County Coroner from 1975 to 1980. She was married to Robert in 1980 and moved to Naperville, Ill., where she continued as a trauma nurse at Edward Hospital. She then became a certified medical case manager/supervisor and worked for several companies in the Chicago land region until her retirement in 2005. She is survived by daughter Karah (Gabe); grandchildren Braden, 6 and Abby Rose, 6 weeks of Herrin, Ill.; and stepson Daniel (Kara); grandchildren, Keaton, 7 and Jake, 3, of Cary, Ill. She is also survived by cousin Murray (MaryLou) Allen of Macomb, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Haskill and Garnett Martin of Blandinsville, Ill. A graveside service will take place in Blandinsville, Ill. at a later date. Information provided by survivors.
