A Memorial Service for Carlos will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 605 S. 14th Ave. in Safford. ~~~~~~~~~ The Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, Arizona, Saturday, February 2, 2013 Carlos Rojas De La Cruz, 79, of Safford, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family who loved him so dearly. Carlos was born in Solomonville, Nov. 17, 1933, to Hilario and Margarita Rojas De La Cruz. He lived in the Gila Valley all of his life. He worked for Phelps Dodge Mining Co. for 33 years as an acid plant operator, then retired in 1984. After retirement, Carlos enjoyed doing yardwork for others. He was a faithful servant of Jehovah for 28 years and enjoyed his preaching work and spending time with his spiritual brothers and sisters. Carlos also loved to go fishing while his kids swam close by. He also liked to work in his own yard and always had a garden of chili peppers. He couldn’t wait until September so he could roast his chilies. He also loved to do house painting, which took him a while, but he got it done. In his last days, the resurrection gave him peace of mind in spite of his illness. Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Margarita; siblings Francisco, Pedro, Clarita and Lorenzo; granddaughters Annette and Stevie; and one great-granddaughter, Erika. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Blanche Luna De La Cruz; children David (Olga) De La Cruz, of Safford, Rebecca B. De La Cruz, of Kansas, Carlos Jr., of Safford, Christopher De La Cruz, of Thatcher, and Elizabeth (James) Dorsey, of Morenci; four grandchildren, Melissa, Christine, Page and Corbin; eight great-grandchildren, Drew, Jace, Hailee, Aaliyah, Melanie, Isabella, Demmi and Jacob; and one great great-granddaughter, Arrika. Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 605 S. 14th Ave. in Safford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Graham Hospice.
